Her Story: Nicollette Sullivan

Can you take us back to the beginning? What are your earliest memories, and how do you think they’ve shaped who you are today?

I’ll always be nostalgic for Fantasia.. I remember my mother putting me to sleep to the demon movement, which someone recently showed me was a Mussorgsky piece. It always gave me the chills, it’s wild how music can affect your mood or state of mind and inspire your imagination.

As you reflect on your life, are there any key moments or turning points that stand out to you? What made them significant?

There are really heavy key moments, but truthfully nothing I’m ready to speak on in a space outside my music.

Who were the most influential people in your life, and how have they impacted your journey and development?

path I am without him and whatever successes I have, are as much his as they are mine.

What challenges have you faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?

Starting out I wasn’t exactly the most confident person. It’s taken some time with recording and playing live to grow as and artist. Meeting reliable like minded artists was huge in really setting my path forward and living up to the artist I’ve always wanted to be.

If you were to pick a theme or a lesson that runs through your life story, what would it be?

I have learned a lot of lessons. I still am learning lessons daily. I suppose something I’m working on currently is staying present.

Are there specific accomplishments or milestones that you’re particularly proud of, and why do they hold such significance for you?

Honestly the first time I was on stage in front of people who I had known since I was a kid, people I cared about, or people who had their own notions about me was sobering.

I learned to make music for myself first and foremost and being on that stage was something liberating I hadn’t felt before. I knew it’s where I belonged.

Looking ahead, what are your hopes and aspirations for the next chapter of your life story? What legacy do you want to leave behind?
I just want to be able to support myself doing something I love, surround myself with people I love, laugh, and leave a legacy of memories.
